Two cars, one truck, when the route allows

Multiple car shipping moves two or more vehicles at once: a family's cars on a move, a dealer's inventory, a collection or a fleet. With Auto Transport Pros, multi-car moves go on open carriers that take seven to ten vehicles, or enclosed trailers for cars that need cover, in all 50 states.

An open carrier has room for seven to ten vehicles, so two or three cars from one address often fit on a single load. That keeps them on the same pickup and delivery days and puts one driver on every condition report. It depends on space: if the truck heading your way only has room for one, the second car follows on a later load.

Mixing vehicles changes the plan. A sedan and an SUV ride together easily. An electric pickup or a dually uses far more of the trailer's weight limit. A classic that needs an enclosed trailer travels apart from the family car that doesn't. List every vehicle when you call, with year, make and model, and say which ones run.

Pickup and delivery addresses can differ. One truck can collect cars from two addresses in the same area, or drop them at two stops along its route, as long as both sit on the way. Two cars going to opposite ends of the country are two shipments.

If this is your first time shipping, how car shipping works follows one car from the call to the delivery signature.

Dealer trades, collections and fleets

Dealer trades, auction runs and fleet moves work the same way at a larger scale. Every vehicle gets its own condition report, keys are labeled to match, and someone at each end signs for every car. Have the list with VINs or stock numbers ready for the call, along with the hours each lot is open.

Moves with more than one vehicle

  • Families moving two or more cars to a new home
  • A student car and the family car on the same move
  • Dealer trades, auction purchases and inventory transfers
  • Collections moving to a new garage or a show
  • Company fleets and rental cars relocating

For every vehicle on the list

  • Year, make, model and whether each one runs
  • Which cars need an enclosed trailer
  • Pickup and delivery addresses for each, if they differ
  • One labeled set of keys per car

Multiple car shipping questions

Is it cheaper to ship two cars together?
Often, per car, when both fit one truck from the same address, because the pickup and the driver's time are shared. It isn't automatic: cars split across trucks, or going to different places, price as separate moves. You hear the rate for each setup on the call.
Can I pack things in one of the cars?
Leave the trunks empty. The cargo policy pays for the cars, not their contents, and anything heavy in a trunk counts against the trailer's weight limit.
What if one car isn't ready on pickup day?
Tell us as soon as you know. The ready car can go on the planned truck and the other on a later load, or both can move to a later date together.
