Winter departures

From late fall to early spring, ask for the earliest pickup date you can manage. A truck that clears the Cascades ahead of a storm has a much easier run east.

Route overview

East over the Cascades first. I-90 climbs Snoqualmie Pass, then runs through Spokane, Montana, northern Wyoming and South Dakota to Sioux Falls, where I-29 turns the truck south to Kansas City. I-70 takes it east to St. Louis, I-24 carries it through Nashville to Chattanooga, and I-75 brings it south through Atlanta and Georgia into north Florida.

Snoqualmie comes in the first hours, so winter storms there hit the start of the trip, not the end. From November into spring, a closure can hold a loaded truck on the Seattle side until the road reopens. Once it’s through the Montana passes, the plains and the Southeast cause fewer long stops.

In Seattle’s denser neighborhoods, many cars live in underground garages or on streets lined with parked cars. Bring the car up to street level before the window opens, and if the block is tight, name a nearby lot where the truck can load.

FAQs

Washington to Florida: does the month matter?
The month counts for more than usual. Fall sends cars south toward Florida for the winter, which can tighten space on southbound trucks, and a winter pickup in Seattle carries the risk of a pass delay. Vehicle size and enclosed transport add to the rate in any season.
What happens if Snoqualmie Pass is closed on pickup day?
The pickup can still go ahead; the truck may just wait in the Seattle area until the pass reopens. If that moves the arrival in Florida, the driver lets you know.
Can I ship a car from Florida back to Seattle?
Yes. Jacksonville to Seattle is the northbound version of this trip, priced for your dates when you call.
