Route overview

The truck heads southwest through Michigan and Indiana to Indianapolis, takes I-70 west to Effingham, Illinois, and turns south on I-57 to the Mississippi. A short stretch of I-55 through the Missouri Bootheel leads into Arkansas, and past Little Rock, I-30 heads southwest to Texarkana, where US-59 takes the car down through the East Texas pine country into Houston.

Michigan winter is the timing risk here, and it lands at the start. A snowstorm in the Detroit area can push the pickup back, and the drive across Michigan and Indiana is the stretch most likely to slow. By southern Illinois, winter weather is much less of a factor.

Wash the car before pickup if you can, especially in winter. A coat of road salt hides scratches and chips, and the condition report written at loading is what the car gets checked against when it arrives in Houston.

FAQs

Michigan to Texas: do winter pickups cost more?
Winter pickups out of Michigan can run higher when snow is slowing trucks across the region. Outside those months, the vehicle size, an enclosed trailer and how firm your dates are decide most of it.
Why does the route end on US-59 instead of an interstate?
US-59 is the direct line from Texarkana to Houston, and taking it keeps the truck clear of Dallas and Fort Worth traffic.
What about hurricane season at the Houston end?
From June through November, a Gulf storm can hold a delivery until Houston’s streets drain and the roads reopen. The car stays loaded on the trailer in the meantime.
